About our
club - its history and purpose
Over 50 and don't feel it? Do you want the
opportunity to do all those things which you couldn't do when you were
younger such as Sailing, Jet Ski-ing, Abseiling, Raft Building,
Archery, White Water Rafting, Microlighting, Caving? Then
come and join us at the 50+ Adventure Club in Northamptonshire. We do
all those things - and more! This picture shows some Members
of the Club white water rafting, no one fell in and everyone had great
fun!
Our Club was formed in 1999 with the encouragement and enthusiasm of
the Sports and Recreation Officer of East Northamptonshire Council who
brought together a few dozen complete strangers to become our first
group of intrepid 50+ Adventurers. The Club is now run by its own
committee which puts on a programme of activities that are challenging
and interesting.
The Club
has over 170 members all of whom have succeeded in a wide variety of
activities that have amazed themselves (and their grandchildren!).Our
recent activities have ranged from caving in Derbyshire, Go Ape high ropes course, indoor go karting,
white water rafting, an activity weekend in the Lake District (with
very good weather!} to more sedate local walks and fun activities such
as a medieval banquet and a game of Petanque at a local hostelry. We are constantly finding new
adventures to have - do look at our web site to see the fun we have
enjoyed since the club was formed.
Not all of our activities are of a physical nature, we have a full
social programme, particularly in the winter months when outdoor
activities - especially those on water - are less enticing.
To quote one of our members "Since I retired, I never dreamed that I
would do such things as this". Want to join us and prove to your family
that you are not a "wrinklie"? There is no upper age limit - our two
most senior members are aged 80!
